Our sought-after temperate substrate is the result of our dedicated in-house research and development spanning five years, and it has been on the market since 2019. It serves as the perfect substrate medium for temperate terrariums. The mix is designed to retain moisture, thereby enhancing ambient humidity, while still allowing proper drainage to prevent the drowning of live plants. It provides an ideal environment for microfauna such as isopods and springtails, thanks to the rich organic compostable materials that offer ample food sources and essential nutrients for the best plant growth. There's no need for additional soils or mixes when planting temperate plants directly into our substrate.
To achieve the best conditions, it's recommended to layer our temperate mix above a drainage layer to avoid over-saturation of the soil, which can lead to mold, mildew, and fungi. A drainage mesh placed over our AK Reptiles and Custom Background Designs Hydro balls or Scoria creates an effective drainage layer.
